new exhibit – crossing the rubicon

Posted in news with tags , , , , on September 21, 2013 by propraetor

salve, citizens!

it is with no small amount of pride that i make a much-delayed announcement concerning the new solo exhibition of my work.

this exhibit, entitled crossing the rubicon, will take place in toronto at gallery 1313 in their “process” gallery. proprætorian works, new and old, will be on display from october 16 through october 27.

i have decided to call this show crossing the rubicon not as a proclamation of civil war, as the historical act signified, but as a proclamation – a throwing down of a gauntlet that proclaims this war i wage is an “all or nothing” situation. and in the words of GAIVS IVLIVS CÆSAR, who was the original crosser of the rubicon “alea iacta est.” [latin: the die is cast]

the gallery is located at 1313 queen street west, in toronto. an opening reception for the entire gallery will be from 8-10pm on october 17 and is by invitation only, so if you wish to attend, let me know.

a grand day at atelier proprætoria! i hope to see you there.

entrenchment – second assault- a pyrrhic victory

Posted in news with tags , on October 9, 2012 by propraetor

salve, citizens.

the second instalment of the entrenchment series has come and gone. while it was almost a repeat of the previous show, content wise, the venue was a bit more interesting and fitting.

lots of interested parties, and a few print sales. sadly, not enough to cover my overhead for the show. nevertheless, the show was a success, in spite of inclement weather, lack of advertising on my part and competing with the largest drinking festival in the province happening less than a block away.

i would like to thank strange utopia for hosting the event and everyone who made it out to the show for their support.

and the machine rolls on….

the entrenchment report

salve, citizens.

the war has officially begun and the first blow has been struck. the entrenchment show at the button factory has come and gone and now that i have sufficiently decompressed from the event, i can comment on it.

i shall not belabour the experience unduly. i will simply sum it up that it was an evening of art, music and grand camaraderie. many friends came by to share the event, with a few new faces. it was a delight to honour the memory of the most stigmatized emperor of the history of Rome with such good company.

my deepest gratitude to those who showed up and to everyone who showed their support for this endeavour, in spite of it being at the beginning of a holiday weekend. keep your attention here, however, as there will be even more done next year in various locations.

entrenchment and armament

Posted in news with tags , , , , on August 18, 2012 by propraetor

salve, citizens.

today, I enter the home stretch on the latest of the propraetorian works, edictum I. this piece, once completed, will remain under wraps until the entrenchment show on august 31 at the button factory in waterloo, ontario, after which time i will unveil it both here and on the facebook page.

entrenchment will be the first solo showing of my artwork in nine years. many pieces will be getting their first showing anywhere. some will be tried and tested veterans of previous wars. if time permits, there may even be a few surprises for attendees. prints and wine will be available and there will be some interesting and engaging fellowship in attendance.

the festivities begin at 7pm and will endure until 11pm.

after this, there will be at least one more show for MMXII, that being the wormwood sojourn in october in peterborough, ontario. the sojourn will feature an exhibition of my digital works, primarilly. after the sojourn, however, will come the silence before the storm.

entrenchment has another important factor to it.

in addition to being the date of the show itself, august 31, MMXII will also be the 2000th anniversary of the nativity of the emperor GAIVS IVLIVS CÆSAR AVGVSTVS GERMANICVS, who is tragically better known, historically, by His childhood nickname of “CALIGVLA”. the emperor GAIVS was known for many unorthodox acts during His reign. some of the primary things GAIVS gifted the empire, however, were the annexation of mauretania (present-day morocco) as a province and various ambitious construction projects.

to commemorate this auspicious anniversary, the year MMXIII will be a year of border-expansion for atelier propraetoria. plans are already underway, however i will withhold further details until such time as details (and finances) are firmed up.

in the meantime, i hope you will join me at the button factory on august 31 to celebrate with me. even though i have participated in several group shows, i am considering this to be a proper celebration of my return to singular exhibition.

until then, citizens.

light bringers

Posted in news with tags , , , , on July 21, 2012 by propraetor

salve, citizens.

it’s an exciting year for propraetor, children. this year i will have participated in at least four art shows, possibly more. most recently-arranged, i am proud and excited to announce that i have been invited to participate in the art show light bringers, which will be part of the international left hand path convention in toronto.

the show itself will be at gallery 1313, located at 1313a queen street west, in toronto. while i will not be in attendance at the opening on july 25th (6-9pm), two of my works will be on display, including the first ever exhibition of seneschal I – of ye delusions of tangibility.

i will, however, be at the closing reception on august 4th (4-9:30pm), for which tickets may be acquired here.

this will be a further warm-up for the upcoming entrenchment in waterloo next month, which will be the first solo exhibition of my work in nine years. a more full announcement will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, though there will be many friends and new allies in attendance.

the war machine is rolling. nothing and no one can stop it.

“welcome home, professor…”

Posted in news with tags , , , , on June 26, 2012 by propraetor

salve, citizens.

professor lambert and his homonculus… have returned from their first ever exhibition at the people’s gallery (coincidentally, the gallery’s first exhibition as well). even though the professor did not actually sell, he did receive lots of compliments and comments and even the odd repeat visitor.

now that he’s back, everything is being focused on the art show in august. propraetor’s first solo art show in nine years will be a one-night engagement on the second floor of the button factory in waterloo, ontario. the event, called entrenchment: an artistic offensive, will be launching at 7pm on august 31. prints will be available for sale, as well as over a dozen originals. more news as the event draws nigh.

in the meantime, follow propraetor on twitter and facebook and keep checking back here for updates.
